Online Bibles

Bible Gateway

This is an excellent description from the website: "Bible Gateway is a searchable online Bible in more than 200 versions and 70 languages that you can freely read, research, and reference anywhere. With a library of audio Bibles, a mobile app, devotionals, email newsletters, and other free resources, Bible Gateway equips you not only to read the Bible, but to understand it."

Bible Gateway has so many resources! I put this website on the Bibles section because it lists so many Bibles but it also has a devotional and a Bible Study built in. The Bible Study area is created to study Bible passages as reading plans. Different reading plans are listed such as chronological, historical, Gospels in a year, etc. There is an advanced search area to search passages, keywords, or topics. Many audio Bibles are available and there is a section for commentaries if the user wants more in depth understanding. The devotional section lists devotionals for women, men and families as well as devotionals on topics.

Bible Gateway also offers a paid website, for $39.99 a year, that offers even more resources. Bible Gateway also contains a store that offers many different resources for adding to your spiritual journey. There is an app that includes everything the website has. The only drawback I could find on this website was a section of advertisements on the left hand side that have nothing to do with the website.

Bible Hub

This website features topical, Greek and Hebrew study tools plus concordances, commentaries, sermons and devotionals. There are also Chinese, Portuguese, and German Bibles available. Bible Hub is packed with so many resources, yet it is easy to navigate. In the center of the website, a section called Bible Tools is available with pictures of the tools for easy access. Bible chapters are listed by genres, ex: history, prophets, gospels, letters, etc. The list of key verses is a nice addition also.

YouVersion logo

From the website: "Since its start in 1996, Life.Church's purpose has been to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. In doing so, we have looked for new ways to help people connect the Bible to their daily lives. We aren't just building a tool to impact the world using innovative technology, more importantly, we are engaging people into relationships with God as they discover the relevance the Bible has for their lives."

YouVersion has a very popular app that can be used with all types of phones and tablets. At the top of the website are icons entitled Read, Plans, and Videos. In the Read section, a tab at the top offers many different Bibles (2414) in many different languages (1660). Creating a free account allows you to highlight and bookmark Bibles of your choice.

The website is completely free with NO advertisements on pages. To be able to do that, YouVersion sells some of the data you post but the website emphasizes that a they do not sell anything that would compromise the user. The user also may choose how much or how little data to add to the website and nothing is shared if the user does not create an account.

This website is a for-profit religious corporation dedicated to building up the Church, which is the Body of Christ. From the website: "Our aim is to offer the freshest and most compelling biblically-based content to Christians who take seriously their relationship with Christ. Bible Study Tools gives Christians of any age and at any stage the opportunity to read, study, understand, and apply the Bible to their lives. BibleStudyTools has 29 versions of the Bible. The website contains concordances, commentaries, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and historical Christian and church books. It includes a parallel Bible reading advantage. Users can highlight, add notes, and bookmark Bible passages and verses. Also included are Bible trivia, audio books, devotions, sermons, and Sunday School lessons. There is a subscription cost to use all the website features and there are three choices. Options for each choice are clearly defined.
